Unemployment and disadvantage can have a devastating impact on people's lives. It affects not just the individual but their families and the wider community. As social disengagement becomes long-term, its impact becomes far-reaching, often affecting the prospects of the following generations and in turn their families and communities.

Creating social and economic opportunities for an individual creates enormous knock-on effects for families, workplaces and local economies which are self-amplifying. But the transformation can only be sustainable if the widest number of stakeholders support the individual in an integrated, multi-service approach - a vision that is consistent with the original charter of our founders:

“ There is nothing more important than helping people who are socially excluded in our community move towards work and lifelong learning. I do think it has to be combined with community building and social engagement though. So it's not just about a job, it's actually about people connecting with their community. ”
Steve Lawrence, founding father writing in 1997
